It’s time to introduce you to another member of the Watson team.
Meet Allex Grimshaw, who’s been with Watson for two years as assistant site manager. Allex is currently working on our Chorley Street site in Bolton, so we grabbed him for a quick update on the project and to find out more about him:
Hi Allex! Tell us a bit about your role as assistant site manager? How long have you been in the role and what does it involve day-to-day?
My role as assistant site manager has a lot to it. Some of my daily tasks include overseeing health and safety on site, liaising with all trades daily and ensuring the quality of work is up to standard for our client.
We hear you’ve been working on the Chorley Street site in Bolton – could you tell us how it’s getting on?
Chorley Street has been interesting, to say the least! It’s been a bit of a tricky year for construction in general and working with apartments is a different experience for me.
The site is progressing really quickly now, and we’re nearly there with final preparations. The attention to detail that has gone into the build, especially in terms of fire regulations, has been great to see.
The site consists of 118 new homes, a mixture of apartments and houses. Knowing that we’re working with Bolton at Home and Irwell Valley Homes to provide affordable housing makes the job feel even better.
It’s been a fantastic journey so far and I’m excited to see it through to the end.
What’s the best thing about working at Watson?
The company supports our professional development – Watson has enabled me to complete my HNC apprenticeship alongside other relevant courses. This has all allowed me to increase my knowledge and skills and feel more comfortable in the industry.
The experience I have gained over the past 10 years have all come together at Watson and now I’m in a career I enjoy.
Why did you get into construction as a career?
It was a no-brainer really. The construction industry is the second biggest industry in the UK and I wanted to be part of that. I love learning the process of building things, and the level of detail it takes.
I also enjoy working with people – I get to work with some great teams and meet a real mixture of characters.
Tell us a bit about yourself and what you do outside work…
Outside of work I like to spend time with my growing family, exploring new places in our campervan. I like climbing and getting out and about on my motorbike… when the British weather allows me to!
