It’s been a busy autumn for everyone at Watson, as we’ve been putting the final touches to a number of our affordable schemes across the North West.

Back in September, we completed the first phase of a new affordable housing development for Great Places Housing Group and Dérive at Jane Street in Ordsall, Salford.

We were joined by the Deputy City Mayor of Salford (and Lead Member for Housing & Neighbourhoods), Cllr Tracy Kelly, plus representatives from our clients, Great Places Housing Group and Dérive to celebrate the first tenants moving in.

Jane Street provides a mix of 43 two and three-bedroom houses and one and two-bedroom cottage flats for affordable and social rent.

Work is now fully completed and we handed over the final 10 homes to Great Places at the end of October.

Matthew Harrison, chief executive officer of Great Places, explained what the scheme means: “This is an excellent example of truly affordable social housing, providing much-needed quality homes for people with a local connection. Great Places is totally committed to creating great homes that create great communities and Jane Street will do just that.”

Great Places’ new customer, Simon Kelsall, was one of the first tenants to move into these new homes. He commented: “I’m so proud and happy with my flat. It’s spacious and finished to a high standard – having a garden is an added bonus! There’s a nice community here already and I’m looking forward to the future in my new place.”

Deputy City Mayor, Cllr Tracy Kelly (who is also a director of Dérive) said: “I’d like to thank Great Places and Watson Homes for working with Dérive to deliver these beautiful and much-needed affordable new homes for local people. As a 100 per cent affordable housing development for rent, Jane Street is a shining example of how we can address both the shortage of affordable housing in the city and the wider national housing crisis.”

At Watson Homes, it’s part of our fabric to help bring to life those developments that we feel will truly benefit local people. It’s been great to be part of this exciting build for Great Places, creating yet more affordable homes for local residents.

We can’t wait to see this new community thrive over the coming years.
